1974 AD US tour 2012 began in San Francisco Bay Area with two house-packed concerts. See videos of concerts below and and also the band members hanging out with friends and fans.
Nirakar talks about the history of the 1974 AD band. How it started with Phiroz and how it was able to influence a new generation of listeners who were traditionally not attracted to Nepali music. A fusion of western and eastern music found a unique appeal to the youths of Nepal who were until then listening to only western music during the 1990s in Nepal.
In 1994 Nirakar and Phroz started the band. At that time they were very much influenced by the hard-rock people like Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and Deep Purple.
They thought that the peak of that type of music was in 1974. After that, synthesized music started coming up. Therefore they named the band 1974 AD honoring the music of that era.
In 1996 they came out with an all English Album called “Time Out”. Hits FM asked them to create an album in Nepali but with similar music. So they came out with the album “Samjhi Baschu”. This album was able to win the hearts of the youth at that time who would listen to only western music.
1974 AD US tour in 2012 started with two big concerts in San Francisco. In addition members of the band had an interaction program with youths from the SF Bay Area. Many of the were happy to see the band members in person because they had not been able to go to the concerts because they were not 21 years old yet. Maybe next time organizers would get this feed back and open the concerts to all age groups. It was evident that their music was as appealing to the old as well as the young.
